2025-06: Summer Camp at Woodruff

In June, we heading up to Woodruff Scout Camp for our annual week long summer camp. The week started out strong, we arrived and had an easy check in, scouts were smiling, exploring camp and just happy to be back, and the week just got better and better! The weather was just about perfect the entire week and everywhere you looked, you saw our scouts in our purple shirts smiling and having the time of there lives. Towards the end of the week, things kicked up another notch when two of our scouts, while out on a late night hike, found their way back to camp with a new friend in tow. A small orange cat followed them from the middle of the woods, 4 miles back to camp and wound up staying with us the rest of the week. One of scouts was even able to adopt him into their loving home. (we checked all the local missing pet pages, drove around, not chipped, no collar, etc. We couldn’t find any original owners)

Our week of animal adventures didn’t stop there though, while hanging out on the fabulous new Sharp Center Porch in early afternoon, the scouts noticed a bat making a lot of noise. Eventually the small bat dropped out of the ceiling and into one of the scouts jackets. A few minutes later… TWO bats crawled out! What an amazing thing to experience.

It really was a jam packed week full of scouts working on merit badges, earning awards, playing games, doing puzzles, playing disc golf, white water rafting, popcorn and candle making, and so… much….. MORE! Really, check out the full album below and block out the dates so you can join us next summer!

2025-05: Scoutland

This weekend, the weather did not look at all good, but that didn’t deter us! We still headed up to Scoutland Scout Camp for a weekend of camping fun. It rained most of the morning, but with no thunder or lightning, we still ran swim checks and spent hours swimming. The water was actually warmer than the air! For the afternoon, scouts played tag, explored a new camp, and generally just decompressed and relaxed during this very stressful time of year. All in all, can’t complain (that much)!

2025-04: Camp Sequoyah

For our April Campout we headed to Camp Sequoyah in Alabama, a really cool camp that we’ve never been to before! Unbeknownst, there was a camporee going on so we ended up spending the day in fire building, water relays, canoe tug-o-wars, races, and more! It was so much fun, especially the kraken rescue. We ended the evening with skits and songs at their camporee camp fire and then headed off for some night repelling! Great way to spend a weekend!

2025-02: Bert Adams

Over Valentine’s weekend we went to Bert Adams Camp. It was supposed to rain all day but it only rained at night. However the severe weather sirens at five in the morning gave us  the fright of our lives as well as a good example for why we need to know what to do and where to go during dangerous weather (we crammed 10 people in a single bathroom stall) . We did the fingerprinting merit badge and other advancements. This was a scout’s first time camping and we promise that this normally doesn’t happen.

2025-01: Day of Fire

Last weekend we continued our tradition of going to day of fire every year, and had so many people sign up that we were split into three patrols rather than our usual one or two. On the first night, we set up our own personal campfire along with our tents. After struggling to get out of our warm sleeping bags and into the cold, we ate breakfast and headed off to one of the coves. We dragged sticks and logs to the fire for a few hours before heading back to camp for lunch. Some of us decided to stay back at camp and watch the fire while the others went to a different cove to continue helping out. When the day was over, we gathered around the campfire for dinner and dessert before going to bed.

2024-12: Escalade

Last weekend, to close out 2024, we went to escalade with troop 22 G, and had a great time! We spent our time climbing and working on the climbing merit badge, and later into the night we played games. When we started with a smaller group, we played hide and seek. Eventually, everyone else joined in and we decided to play sardines. We slept throughout the gym, but most of us decided to sleep on the mats of the children’s play area. Before we had the chance to get much sleep, it was already time to leave in the morning.

2024-11: Starlight Campout

This weekend, we went stargazing at camp woodruff! We learned about the solar system and constellations, and met most of the requirements for the astronomy merit badge. Thank you Daytona for camping with us this weekend and teaching us about space! Later, we joined WSC Staff in folding the tents from summer camp for storage. After that, we waited for it to get dark by singing camp songs, and when the sun set we went to look at constellations and planets.
