Adopt-A-Mile

2023-03: Adopt-A-Mile

We had our first Keep Cobb Beautiful Adopt A Mile of the year yesterday, the sun may have been shining, but the blowing wind made this a chilly one. Still, thanks to everyone who came out to help, we were able to get 7+ bags of trash off the streets and properly disposed. Adopt A Miles are always a lot of fun and a great way to give back to the community.

We’ve got a new face! Thank you Pack 1714 for inviting us to take part in your Crossover Ceremony where Arrow of Light Scouts transition from Cub Packs to Scout Troops. We were able to welcome our first crossover to our troop and are looking forward to many more to come! Thank you Lili for allowing us to be part of your scouting journey.

Outings & Activities

Cumberland Caverns

This weekend we headed up to Tennessee for a short hiking and caving trip. We left Saturday morning to do a short hike up to Greeter Falls and have a nice picnic lunch before heading over to spend the night at Cumberland Caverns. After checking in to the cavern, the scouts donned helmets, and crawled through a 14″ by 33″ test box to make sure everyone could make it through the caves. We then took 3 hours to traverse 1.5 miles is cave, climbing over and crawling under boulders, and squeezing through some very tight spaces. We ended the night with a walking tour of the upper Caverns, had some dinner, and slept in the complete darkness of the cave.

2023-01-16: Allatoona Day of Fire

We kicked off 2023 with a quick but amazing first campout up at Allatoona Aquatics Base. We arrived just after dark on Friday and quickly setup and turned in for a chilly first night. On Saturday we spent all morning down at the beach helping with the camp’s annual “Day of Fire” where we collected and burned excess driftwood and installed old Christmas Trees as fish habits. It was a lot of fun and a great way to give back to the camp. We finished off the day with a refresher on Totin Chit & Firem’n Chip duties before gathering around a warm fire for the evening. Sunday morning, we packed up, policed our campsite, and headed for home. Overall, the weekend may have been cold, but it was a fun, relaxed, enjoyable weekend for all and we’re already looking forward to our next outing.

2022-12: Escalade Lockin

We’ve held out first Lock-In at Escalade Climbing Gym and wow it was a ton of fun! Scouts got to learn how to repel, tie some knots for the Climbing Merit Badge, and climb to the point of exhaustion! With snacks, pizza, and a special birthday treat, everyone had lots of energy and the perfect way to burn it off. This was also our first joint event with Troop 2319-B and it was so so great to see so many different scouts having so much time. What a great overnight event to end the year with.
